Democracy and Legal Aid Centre (DLAC) participated in a stakeholder meeting convened by the National Gender and Equality Commission (NGEC) and UN Women to discuss the proposed Bill on the Two-Thirds Gender Rule in Parliament.
The session provided an opportunity for public scrutiny and stakeholder input on the Bill, focusing on its feasibility, implementation mechanisms, and the importance of actualising gender equality in political representation.
Discussions also revisited the journey of women’s inclusion in leadership, reflecting on the cultural, structural, and financial barriers that have historically limited women’s participation in elective and nominated positions.
The proposed law aims to create clear pathways and enforcement mechanisms to ensure compliance with the constitutional requirement for gender balance in governance and decision-making spaces.
